Texas’ rainy day fund

Today’s new included a story at the West U Examiner about the Texas rainy day fund:

Education activists say Perry plan for rainy day funds isn’t enough

Public education advocates reacted swiftly Tuesday to Gov. Rick Perry’s announcement that he, House Speaker Joe Straus and State Comptroller Susan Combs had reached agreement on alleviating the state budget shortfall that includes tapping into the Rainy Day Fund. But most agreed that Perry isn’t going far enough, by limiting the amount to $3.2 billion from the fund and making it a one-time-only fix.

The proposed announced by Perry also included a combination of cuts and another $300 million that will come from a bump in sales tax revenues in recent months.
