Check out engVid, with hundreds of videos that have been produced to help you learn to read and write English. (via) They offer beginner, intermediate and advanced level classes featuring lessons from eight teachers. There’s also a great reference and resource section. Definitely worth checking out.

Your local library will offer access to many resources. Houston Public Library offers, free, access for cardholders to the following (you may not need a library card for all of these):

  • Annenberger Learner || Professional development for teachers and classroom resources across the curriculum.  Features streaming videos that teach topics including language learning (Spanish, French, German, ESL, etc.), math, and science.
  • engVid : Free English Video Lessons || Short English Language videos about grammar and culture.
  • Livemocha || Learn a language and make friends in the process.
  • Mango Languages || Mango immerses you in real, everyday conversations in multiple languages, including Spanish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, Russian, Arabic or learn ESL for Spanish, Vietnamese, Arabic and more.
  • USA Learns || Offers lessons in English and Spanish emphasizing basic skills such as reading, writing, math, English language competency and problem-solving
  • || Learn English with free tools for ESL students, including English language references, activities including tests and polls, and articles on English usage.
