Day Care centers may receive new regulations

Reported by KHOU: Houston may impose new regulations on day care centers after fatal fire

They’ve proposed an ordinance that would require day care centers operating in homes to register with the city government, pay a $100 annual fee and submit to yearly inspections by fire marshals.@

Under the proposed ordinance, day care centers failing their first inspections would generally be allowed to stay in business while they come into compliance with fire codes, officials said. Then they would pay $75 for another inspection. If they fail the second inspection, city officials said, they would pay a stiff fine of $2,000 a day.

The proposal will be reviewed by a city council committee next week
